Art and musical tastes?
Ok, further to my previous question. Please let me know if you like John Cage 4'33. Also, please let me know if you like the work by the abstract expressionists such as Rothko and Malevich http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malevich http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Rothko. Personally, I do not think John Cage 4'33 to be music first, and I also like abstract expressionist paintings. I like the art teachers (art Baroque, Waterhouse, Alma Tadema, etc.). I admire the modern paintings are impressionistic paintings and surrealism. I believe that art and musical tastes correlate to some extent and this question will help you find out if my intuition is true or not. I think you're right. I noticed that among my friends, colleagues and students that art and musical tastes are often correlated, but people tend to a little more adventurous with their taste in the visual arts than in music. I know many people who love Picasso, but I hate dechiré Schoenberg and Webern. however, aesthetically they are doing the same thing only in a different medium. I like 4'33''in two different levels. there is the idea of the piece and actual performance of the piece are two completely different things.
