I heard a song today, what is the name of it?
I was listening to 89.9 fm NY WKCR(Columbia Univ. Station) this morning. During their program Bird Flight I heard a song that had a drum solo that reminded me of the song Moby Dick by Led Zepplein. I believe based on what the DJ stated that the drummer was Art Blakey. It was a live recording and I think Art was playing with Sonny Stitt, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk. They played together in the early 1970's under the Giants of Jazz. The only thing that bothers me besides not knowing the name of the song is why a program dedicated to the music of Charlie Parker would play music not played by him.
I found the album on Amazon. Given that the music on the program probably was one of the tunes written by Bird on this CD, that narrows it down to two: Allen's Alley or Blue 'n' Boogie. Although your best bet would be to preview the songs and see which one sounds familiar. Hope this helps!
