Vegansexual - definition!

No sex, please, you're a carnivore. A new phenomenon in New Zealand is taking the idea of you are what you eat to the extreme.

Vegansexuals are people who do not eat any meat or animal products, and who choose not to be sexually intimate with non-vegan partners whose bodies, they say, are made up of dead animals.

The co-director of the New Zealand Centre for Human and Animal Studies at Canterbury University, Annie Potts, said she coined the term after doing research on the lives of "cruelty-free consumers".

Cruelty-Free Consumption in New Zealand: A National Report on the Perspectives and Experiences of Vegetarians and other Ethical Consumers asked 157 people nationwide about everything from battery chickens to sexual preferences.

Many female respondents described being attracted to people who ate meat, but said they did not want to have sex with meat-eaters because their bodies were made up of animal carcasses.

"It's a whole new thing – I have not come across it before," said Potts.

One vegan respondent from Christchurch said: "I believe we are what we consume, so I really struggle with bodily fluids, especially sexually."

Another Christchurch vegan said she found non-vegans attractive, but would not want to be physically close to them.

"I would not want to be intimate with someone whose body is literally made up from the bodies of others who have died for their sustenance," she said.

Emptiness is a symptom that you are not living creatively. You either have no goal that is important enough to you, or you are not using your talents and efforts in a striving toward an important goal.

Raw Vegan - Week 3

Inga Ambrosia has been raw for about three weeks. I must say it has been good and bad. For some reason, the sugar highs and lows have put me out of commission on many occasions. Sometimes, I can only stay awake for an hour or two. It may have something to do with all the philosophical stuff I've been reading also. The brain has to organize that which has been soaked up.

Also, when I write myself, it is so draining that I need to replenish my energy. One thing I know is eating green grapes sends me on a sugar supernatural high that plops you down to the ground in 60 minutes. Not something I can give up, but not something I need either. Cherries are still my best friends. Naval oranges are giving me much needed Vitamin C. Took a week off from salads just out of sheer boredom ...

Made a giant mistake of trying to eat soy ice cream. My body rejected that before I even finished the last bite. I'm going to get gross here ... but you can go to the next paragraph if you choose to. When I ____ in the bowl, I saw that all the fruit was excluded from the mixture. Isn't the body amazing ... ok gross part over.

Something has happened to my body and senses. The crap I used to get away with eating is no longer valid. Oreo cookies make me feel ill. Potato chips make me break out. I can detect the freshness of foods (or lack of freshness) so much easier. My sense of smell is heightened. This can become quite costly when I've spent $100 on groceries for two weeks. I stopped eating bread altogether. You can get addicted to bread if you aren't careful. It's funny, I pass by the entire first section of the grocery store. Have you ever noticed how disgusting the fish department smells at the grocery store? ... Pew! If I didn't have to buy shampoo and floss I would skip the first two aisles completely. How can the people behind the counter work there? ... Blek!

Anyway, have a nice weekend and support local live music and artists. They're usually good people ... Peace! ;-)

Poker Players Beat Computer

by Deboran Jones 1 hour, 23 minutes ago

VANCOUVER (AFP) - Two professional poker players narrowly beat a computer late Tuesday after four tense rounds that scientists called the world's first man-versus-machine poker championship.

Phil Laak and Ali Eslami, two poker players from Los Angeles ranked as the world's best, prevailed against a program named Polaris by just 570 points in the fourth and final game in the match.

Rows of weary-looking computer scientists and a few spectators watched the grueling poker battle in an overheated hotel conference room as it stretched on until 11 pm (0600 GMT) on Tuesday.

When the humans won, the room erupted in cheers.

[Source]

____________________________

I actually really love poker because of the psychological aspects of the game. The reason I think the human won over the machine is:

1) Computers have definite patterns which internet players can detect in minutes.
2) A computer can't take into account a person's facial expressions or odd behavior.

That's my two cents .. I'll give you your change back later. Cya

Justin Timberlake - Serving up [S]troke & [H]eart Attack

Justin Timberlake opens a new restaurant called [S]outhern [H]ospitality in NYC, serving greasy macaroni and cheese, shrimp, ribs and catfish. Carcass du jour. They actually used the term "pulled pork". Sick!

Why can't people open up health food restaurants? Poor New Yorkers. Didn't they just ban trans fats in restaurants? Everyone knows that Southern food can kill you. He's thin so you know he doesn't eat this crap! I won't lie, my parents are Southern. I was fed this stuff before I was enlightened through veganism. Just a waste of celebrity status to promote ill-health. Think of all the pot-bellies and indigestion these dishes will cause, all for a buck. People should think of the trail of consequences their ventures will leave. Nobody thinks of that these days. Nobody thinks of the animals slaughtered to fill these plates, because the blood is washed away, from their bodies and our memories. Not me, I always remember.

[Sample Menu]
Macaroni & Cheese: rotting curdled milk, drained butterfat, pasta made from eggs stolen from chickens who will later become nuggets or hot wings anyway.

BBQ Ribs: chest walls of male steer broken in half and softened by sitting in a steamer because the muscle meat is too hard, then charred on a grill.

BBQ Baby Back Ribs: chest walls of baby calves already soft due to fatigue and malnutrition, also charred on a grill.

Catfish: Fish caught by lodging a hook in their mouths after being baited by shrimp or other dead fish, slammed against the wall to kill, ripped opened, insides removed, scales ripped off, heads cut off, skinned and fried.

Shrimp: Small shelled crustaceans, heads chopped off, veins pulled out (sometimes), legs ripped off and boiled or fried.

Sausage: All parts of a pig (scraps), ground up and formerly shoved into a pig's intestines for casing and boiled, fried or baked.

Enjoy!

A nice gesture: All the wood in the restaurant came from New Orleans trees uprooted by Hurricane Katrina ... ok ...

Click [here] to watch the video of him giving a reporter a tour of the restaurant.

Petra Nemkova picture 1300820

Supermodel PETRA NEMCOVA has become a vegan after reading up on the planet's fish problems. The stunning Czech Republic catwalk star reveals she gave up meat and dairy in February (07) because she wants to set an example and help save ocean life. Nemcova explains, "I became quite green... I have a very strong connection to nature... and I read that if we fish the way we fish, in 2048 there will be no more fish left, which is pretty soon. So it's a statement."

I went back to the 80's today!!!

When did we think this was cool? From the hair to the dance moves to the outfits. If guys danced like this now, they would be laughed out of the school. Speaking of school, I just regressed back to 1989 and had a bag of gummy worms and Now & Laters. Remember those ... mmm mmm ... I washed it down with Vitamin Water - Rescue. I'm not a bandwagon person, getting on the whole designer water craze. I just wanted something between a water and a juice, and this seemed like a good choice. It tastes like a Mountain Dew that had ice in it, but you left it in the window, in view of the sun, and it got cloudy, and all the flavor went to the bottom and mixed with the water. I think that's the idea. An intentional aftertaste of flavor. Whatever, it was good.

Bye bye ...

Dose of Inspiration - You can Succeed!

Destined to achieve
Make the choice to succeed. And then act as if you have no other choice.
Challenge yourself with an ambitious goal. And then find a way to rise to that challenge.

Your life will move forward when you choose to make it happen. The way to find fulfillment is to be an active and persistent participant in it.

Achievement does not come to those who sit and wait for a sure thing. Achievement is attained by taking a dream and then making it into a sure thing.

When you're on the line, and everything is riding on it, you have no choice but to perform. Find creative, meaningful ways to put yourself on the line.

You are destined to achieve great things. Choose to fully live that destiny.

Anne Hathaway Turned Off By Meat

FARM LIFE TURNS HATHAWAY OFF MEAT

ANNE HATHAWAY

Actress ANNE HATHAWAY became a strict vegetarian on the Irish set of period movie BECOMING JANE because she couldn't bear to eat meat after watching the birth of lambs at a farm nearby. The Devil Wears Prada star, who plays beloved English writer Jane Austen in the film, rarely eats meat - but life on a farm in Ireland really turned her off. And having fervent vegan James Cromwell as a co-star didn't help either. She says, "I'm a flexatarian which means I eat meat when I feel like I'm going to die or pass out, but I eat mostly vegetarian food. "That being said, we were filming alongside a sheep farm and it was calving season and all these little lambs were going around and were so alive. I'd never eaten lamb but I just couldn't eat any meat while I was making the movie. "James Cromwell was there and he's this hardcore, intimidating vegan, so I especially felt uncomfortable having anything to do with eating animals around him."

Vegan 2 Raw - Documentary

Vegan 2 Raw Vegan - Raw Documentary - Mike Fields

Posted Jun 10, 2007

What happens when you take a health conscious vegan and put him on a 100% raw food diet? Will there be a difference? In this documentary, New Zealand film maker Mike Fields, goes 100% raw and partakes in bloody, body and fitness tests to find out if there is any benefit to a live food or raw food diet. As Mike travels around New Zealand trying to interview anyone who has even heard of raw food he discovers a rich network or raw food advocates. *** Second Place - Most Entertaining Film - Raw Food Film Film.

Tauranga film maker, Mike Fields, is back from the world premiere of his documentary “Vegan 2 Raw Vegan” at the Raw Food Film Festival in West Hollywood, USA, where the film was voted second place for most entertaining film.

“It was an unexpected surprise to get a placing” says Mike. Although he had made some “pretty cool home movies” he had never made a feature length documentary before, had no budget and does not even own a video camera.

Mike is an adamant believer in setting big goals and not getting caught up in the ‘how’ problems. “It’s a funny thing” says Mike “once I decided that I would do this film and take it to Hollywood, so many things just fell into place. I would say to a friend that I was going to make a film and they would reply ‘That’s great. Do you need a camera?’” This scenario happened to Mike repeatedly in the first 5 days after making his decision. “I ended up with 3 great cameras from generous local people. I did not even have to ask.”

A challenge was finding ‘raw foodists’ to interview. “Raw foodists do not cook their food. They eat a lot of fruits, vegetables and nuts.” says Mike “I have been a vegetarian / vegan for a couple of years and I had often heard raw foodist say they have so much energy, clarity and focus. I eat similar food but I cook some of it. I had often wondered, would there be any difference?”

Mike was surprised by the number of people who were interested in or following a raw food lifestyle in New Zealand and here in the Bay of Plenty especially. “One contact seemed to lead to 2 or 3 more”.

In the film Mike uses ‘before’ and ‘after’ measurements of his blood, body and fitness levels and ate a 100% raw food diet for 30 days.

“The food was pretty boring at first, but I quickly learnt a variety of dishes and even some raw gourmet meals that made it more fun and tasty. I ate the BEST chocolate cake ever and it was raw!”

The filming was completed in a month and the editing took another 4 months. Having the deadline of the festival, Mike was working on the editing up to 22 hours a day, often for days on end.

On the morning of departure for America he was still editing. “It really was down to the wire. When I finally took the master DVD out of the computer, I put it in my pocket and jumped into the ready loaded car and raced off to the airport.”

Was there any difference between the vegan and raw vegan diets?

Veggie Munn @ Ambrosia Ambiance

Hello All,

I just wanted to give you guys a recap of Ambrosia Ambiance - 7/12/07. The event was a big success. We are developing a small following which is great! PHIsonica was excellent. Last time they didn't get to do their visuals because of the space, but this time you really got the full experience. Angela Fischetti performed 'Over The Rainbow', Jared/Rusty/Mike performed a psychedelic jam session. Kacey Westall drew a live art piece during the performances. Very talented. Sound was awesome, vibe was chill and the food was fantastic...

Veggiemunn.com provided The Ambrosia Ambiance Tour with raw vegan treats ranging from almond salad, apple and vegetable kabobs, banana cream pie, apple pie and garlic hummus on crackers. All organic, all raw and vegan and all delicious. People were going back for 3rd and 4ths so you know they enjoyed it. Everyone said what a great time they had and how relaxing and cool the place was. We will be returning to the Wallflower Gallery soon per the request of the owner, C.D. Flash. Stay Tuned. Also check out Veggiemunn.com for her weekly menu for raw vegan deliveries. Many choices and trust me, you will be very pleased.

See you at the next event! To be added to the mailing list email me at: events@ambrosiaambiance.com

Raw Vegan Induction - Day 3 & 4

RAW VEGAN UPDATE:
Inga Ambrosia has had a love affair with a pineapple. Get your minds out of the gutter. I haven't bought a whole pineapple in like ... ever! I'm used to the canned stuff or whatever fruit salad concoction I'm eating at the time. Anyway, two days ago, I started eating green apples which are so good this month. Ventured into the naval oranges arena. Bought some organic bananas that haven't quite ripened yet. The strawberries are all gone.

Have a nice weekend and try to drink less alcohol, the music sounds so much better. L8A ;-)

Veg Band - Rise Against Has Something To Say To America!

Chicago hardcore group Rise Against have never been afraid to take a social stance -- both in their songs and on a personal level. Accordingly, while keeping alive the old-school tradition of punk music as an instrument of political change, they make it a point to walk it like they talk it -- the band members are fervent animal-rights activists, to cite one example. Lead singer Tim McIlrath, who takes very seriously his responsibility as an American to voice his opinion that the nation should live up to its ideals, has listed five ways in which he believes the government and the American people have not kept up their end of the bargain. Rare Ghost Orchid Found - Naples, FL

NAPLES, Fla. - A rare ghost orchid has been found growing high in an old cypress tree in a southwest Florida nature preserve.

Two visitors looking for owls on Saturday spotted the endangered orchid growing about 45 feet off the ground in a tree at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples. The orchid, featured in the nonfiction book "The Orchid Thief" and the fictional movie spinoff "Adaptation," is about 150 feet from the sanctuary's boardwalk and can be seen only with binoculars and good lighting.

The orchid, which blooms for about two weeks, has nine flowers, triple the usual number. It is not clear how long this ghost orchid has been blooming.

I've been to this sanctuary. Bring good walking shoes. A real trip, man. The LETTUCE LAKE is insane. You must see it!

Vegans & Vegetarians @ Live Earth - AFI

AFI snuck in a little vegan activism before their performance at Live Earth. This warms my soul. ;-)

AFI is such a very good popular youth rock group (moreso that Duran Duran of the 80's) go to www.myspace.com/AFI to listen (Love Like Winter is a great song) and see how many diehard fans they have! They are fairly reserved, but stating that they are all Vegetarian and the lead singer has been Vegan for 10 years live in front of millions was sooo important. Oh yeah the lead signer was voted sexiest veggie by peta2 this year. (Source)

Day 2 - Raw Vegan Induction

VEGAN TURNS RAW:
So, yesterday I told you I was trying out this whole raw vegan deal. So far so good. Today, I had a bowl of cherries and it tasted like LIFE. Minus the seeds, I'd forgotten how juicy they were. The grocery store was displaying them like fine art and I surrendered.

There were probably 30 seeds in that bowl. I wasn't hungry after though. Later I had grapes, a head of romaine w/shredded carrots. A gigantic bowl of strawberries with (this is bad) Cookie Avalanche Purely Decadent Soy Ice Cream. I know, I know. Look - baby steps man. The soy ice cream is gone, so is the temptation.

Tonight, I will have 2 ears of steamed corn, cut from the cob with organic pea soup (barely heated).

So far the digestion hasn't been a problem. My energy is good and I'm learning to find something physical to do to burn off that natural sugar. It's only been a few days but my face is thinner, and an issue I've had with my skin is clearing up nicely. My friend Eric gave me the book by Dr. Douglas N. Graham, The 80/10/10 Diet. Will post some interesting page numbers later this week. I'll keep you posted.

Moby blogs about burgers @ Live Earth

Eco-friendly MOBY has hit out at the organizers of the LIVE EARTH concerts for selling meat at the events.

The vegan musician's complaint echoes that of animals rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) who claim meat production massively damages the environment.
Moby writes on his blog,

"The one thing that still stuns me, though, is that almost no-one in the 'stop global warming' camp talks about the environmental ramifications of animal production. To quote a U.N. article: Rearing cattle produces more greenhouse gases than driving cars.

"At the Live Earth concerts people were eating hamburgers and hot dogs and chicken, which is akin to getting drunk at the funeral for someone who died of alcohol poisoning.

"It's just depressing that some huge truths about climate change are too inconvenient."

My sentiments exactly.

Global Warming can start WARS!

Andrea Thompson
LiveScience Staff Writer
LiveScience.com

Mon Jul 9, 12:30 PM ET

Food and water shortages fueled in the future by global warming could spur conflicts and even wars over these essential resources, the authors of a new study warn.

History suggests the controversial idea might be on track.

Changes in climate, such as temperature and rainfall, can significantly alter the availability of crops, livestock and drinking water. Resource shortages could, in turn, prompt people to turn to war to get what they need to survive, several experts have warned.

A new study, detailed in the August 2007 issue of the journal Human Ecology, suggests this was the case in the past. The authors reviewed 899 wars fought in China between 1000 and 1911 and found a correlation between the frequency of warfare and records of temperature changes.

“It was the oscillations of agricultural production brought by long-term climate change that drove China’s historical war-peace cycles,” wrote lead author David Zhang of the University of Hong Kong.
