Blog Hop - Vegan Topics
Portland, Oregon's Casa Diablo Gentlemen's Club is a strip joint where only vegetarian food is served and the look is pleather and lace. Today's New York Times looks at ways sexuality is now used by some as a marketing gimmick for veganism and animal rights. As you might expect, some vegans are not too pleased about that. From the NYT:[Rescue Ink] Tattooed Animal Rights Activists rescue bulldog with pure intimidation.
[Chad Samo] Raw Food consultant, chef ~ Interview
SP: So, do you only eat raw food?I'm also 80% Raw and proud of it!
CS: No, I'm vegan. I believe in balance and what it comes down is I'm a chef and I love food and vegan food limits me enough [let alone raw food]. About 80 per cent of what I eat is raw and I do believe highly in eating raw food -- it's my life-path and I did eat only raw food for six years -- which was great, but then I didn't operate a business.

mass for dogs, pray for cures
Nicaraguans celebrate mass for dogs, pray for cures
Mon Mar 10, 8:55 AM ET
Hundreds of dogs, many dressed as babies or clowns, were taken to celebrate mass in this Nicaraguan town on Sunday, an annual ritual where the owners pray for their pets to be cured or avoid falling ill.
A long queue of Catholics, carrying their pets or leading them on leashes, waited their turn to pass by an image of a saint in a tiny church in this town 20 miles to the south of the Nicaragua capital, Managua.
The faithful thank the saint for curing their pets or ask for the dogs to be protected from illness. The town's priest always conducts a special canine mass.

ART ROUGE GALLERY is delighted to invite you to the upcoming opening reception of "Je suis l'espirit danseuse", an art exhibition with sculptures & paintings on glass and metal by acclaimed international artist Carson Case.
During the opening reception, that will take place on March 8, 2008 from 7:00 to 11:00 pm Carson will present an interpretative dance and paint performance with live percussionists Sioux Vargas, Andrew Jahmassa, Joe Teskie, Mark Richards, Djonga Kembe and world music by DJ Inga Ambrosia. We will create a stage in the parking lot of our gallery, thus we are asking our guest to park in the parking meters surrounding the gallery or in Midtown Mall which is located only one block away from our space. The cocktail for the opening reception will be sponsored by Diplomático, ambassador brand of the Venezuelan Rum.
Much of Carson's work is abstract or surreal figurative and she often uses mythological creatures like dragon, phoenix and snakes as a manifestation of our internal song… whether grappling with suppressed desires or walking through fire to embrace our destiny. She also integrates in her art number theory, quantum field theory, and alchemy. Carson expresses herself through the visual arts, dance, music, and poetry with the pure perfection of the spirit.
"I mix modern and natural elements, because I believe we are becoming over-mechanized and disconnected from a needed balance with nature. Music and instinct tell me what to paint, what colors to use, what subject to explain. My brushes are nature!
I paint on recycled glass sheets, metal studs and straps, fabric, etc., with leaves, sea grass, seaweed, rope and my fingers and mix my paint with sand, glass chips, mud, tar, oil, plaster, and whatever else inspired me at that moment."
