I don’t know who listened to my silent prayers for better vegan options at Coachella this year, but the days of subsisting for a weekend off hockey-puck falafels are apparently over. There’s a dope organic sandwich stand by the entrance called Green Leaf that makes a mean tempeh wrap and an Indian joint by the Outdoor Stage called Bombay Station that has the single best plate of festival food I’ve had in Indio: coconut rice with dal and tomato-pea curry. I, for one, appreciate Coachella finally acknowledging the considerable filthy hippie demographic in its culinary planning.
X--------------INSERT VIDEO HERE-----------------X :(
I am attempting to post the video of Prince (vegan) covering Creep by Radiohead but there is some conspiracy with Youtube and every video is messed up. Try searching [here] or just Stay Tuned.
Thank you so much for carrying Soy Milk. You would not get my business otherwise. However, there is absolutely nothing in your display case for vegans. Not one thing. You have pumpkin loaves, muffins, black and white cookies, scones etc. You even carry McDonald's style egg McMuffins with bacon and cheese. Not healthy at all, but I can see that you're willing to expand your inventory.
Not only are there no ingredients posted, but there is nothing specifically vegetarian or vegan. What's up with that? Yes, some vegans drink coffee. I rarely do but when I do, its a week long deal, every day practically.
So I beg you, please start carrying some vegan products so I can eat a little something with my Soy Latte or I'm going to have to start going to Offerdahls.
I just had a conversation with someone that I consider very intelligent. HOWEVER! He said, "Animals were put on this Earth to serve mankind." WHAT!
This is how the rest of the debate went:
HIM: "Humans can do many things that animals can't do."
ME: "Animals can do what they need to do."
HIM: "Yes, but an animal can't build a building."
ME: "If an ant was our size, he could pick up this building."
HIM: "We have dominion over animals."
ME: "What does that mean, exactly?"
HIM: "We are the superior species. All animals answer to us. They are here for our benefit."
ME: "We learned to fly, swim, build, hunt, travel, colonize and adapt from animals."
HIM: "Yes, but animals cannot learn things from us."
ME: "Humans teach animals things all the time. Usually for entertainment purposes."
HIM: "Yes, but anything an animal can do we can do."
ME: "Wrong! Elephants can send a vibrational signal through the ground that can be felt and understood by other elephants 100 miles away. Can we do that?"
HIM: "Yes, through the phone."
ME: "Certain starfish can instantaneously clone themselves in the presence of danger."
HIM: "So."
ME: "Certain frogs can become female if their population is predominately male."
HIM: "So."
ME: "I give up."
This is the kind of conversation I have with MY FATHER on a daily basis. Tiring but fun... :-X
I was driving along the 79th Street Causeway and almost hit someone trying to take this photo. This dude loves Miami, huh? It's nice to see with all the Miami-bashing going around. It's going to be hard leaving my hometown. It is so nice to tell people, "Yes, I am a Miami native." But then they say, "Wow, you're a rare breed." Which I think is so stupid because how many people have been born since 1975. True, my parents aren't from here, and neither are any of my parent's friends ... but c'mon on is that still relevant.
We should have shirts that say, "I LOVE MIAMI .. but I'm still outta here. =)" Not funny?
I posted a review of my friend's restaurant [HERE]
Today, I got a thank you from one of his customers (below).
Ambrosia, a million thanks for posting this!!
I was starving yesterday... and after what seemed like 100 vegan-related Google search queries.. I came across this post..
I live in Carol City, so the drive wasn't far at all..
The food was delicious! I ate at a Vegan Burger w/ chips and hummus, a scrumptious vegan patty, and had the most delicious bottle of water that I've ever had in my life!!
The owner, Hakin, was a wonderful host while we were in his restaurant. He sat and conversed with us as we ate, and even blessed us with two to-go plates on the house!
I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good wholesome food!! Not just vegetarians or vegans, Anyone!

COMMON'S INTERVIEW Q: Alright just one more, a little lighter thing. I had heard you are a vegan but I read something saying you went back to fish. What’s up with that?
A: Yeah, I eat fish, man. I needed some protein. I’ve been eating fish for like two years now, two and a half years. It’s great too. I’m glad to be eating it. It was tough being vegan. I salute all vegans and vegetarians.
DREW BARRYMORE "I still don't eat a ton of meat, and I don't wear a ton of leather," she told imdb.com.
"But I just don't put strict limitations on myself anymore. I don't beat myself up. I didn't wear certain designers because I didn't want any animals to suffer for beauty and stuff, and so I literally was dressed by Old Navy at one point.
"I still shop there, happily. And Urban Outfitters and the Gap - I love those stores. You need basics for stability, but eventually I got tired and wanted to play again. Dressing is like an art form - it's so much fun."

This makes me quite sad, but like I've said in the past, if you're vegan because of diet it won't last. If you EVER cared about the safety of animals, you would NEVER return to eating meat. Your conscience wouldn't even allow you to chew an animal, let alone swallow and digest one. Willpower ... it's all about willpower and selflessness. Some people can handle it, others just want blood on their lips. What else is there to say?
Vegetarian Restaurant by Hakin 73 NE 167 Street Miami, FL (786) 210-8787 Open for breakfast at 7:30am Mon - Thurs 7:30am - 7:oo pm Friday 7:30am - 3:00pm Sunday 7:30am - 5:00pm Specials everyday Closed Saturday
One of my really good friends owns a new vegan/vegetarian restaurant in North Miami called, Vegetarian Restaurant by Hakin.
This is what I ate yesterday with my father and niece. Neither of them is veg but they really enjoyed it. I had watermelon juice (made from scratch) and this special of the day.
Tofu Fish (realistic texture without fishy smell) Curried Tofu Red beans and potato Rice Cucumber Tomato Salad
They have 3 portions, $4, $6, $9. This must be the $9 one because I couldn't finish it. Very tasty and very flavorful. No wait, I also had a vegetable and soy burger wheat patty. DELICIOUS!!!!! =)
Hakin is a very spiritual man and puts a lot of love into his meals. You will enjoy it!
I joined veggieboards.com because I'm missing more vegan interactions. There are a few vegan friends I have in Miami, but I can count them on one hand. =( However, they are amazing!
Anyway, there was this survey that I wanted to participate in, and I purposely didn't read the responses before I posted to see how similar they were. It was eerie, man.
In my class, we have started a project called "Making Differences", and my topic is.. well, you can guess! Veganism. Although I had to narrow it down to Chickens & Cattles, I also decided to include more of the animals thought of as food. I would feel quite guilty leaving the fishes, or bees behind! And for this project, interviewing someone is mandatory. I just recently (by recent, I mean about 5 minutes ago this was made) mailed a vegan author the same thing, and I would like more responses in case mine is not answered!
Although I'd joyfully take on this interview and interview myself, sadly, that's not allowed. However, looking at other vegans' responses are much more interesting, and, well, allowed.
The vegans I would like to interview are ones who exclude honey out of their diet, or very very very rarely consume it. I don't want to restrict you from taking this either! So everyone is welcome; all boys & girls, women and men, young and old.. the only rule? Have fun!
I will look at every interview (unless I receive 1000 o_o ) and I will be looking for outstanding and specific answers! And of course, I want to hear your stories. Don't give me a 50 page essay though. Although detail is great, too much is.. well, an eye killer. xD
Every interview will benefit my project and convince others that vegans are NOT some hippies that are super afraid of killing animals or something like that. [My Survey][All Surveys]
This place used to be called San Loco. I ordered a Vegetarian Burrito with extra avocado. You can get it with beans or rice. They have a sauce called salsa verde which is basically shredded jalapeños. The bartender (above), who was very nice and energetic and had no idea I would review the place, warned me that I should be careful and crossed her heart. It had a little kick, but my taste buds must be dead from all the years of eating Haitian Picles and Jamaican Scotch Bonnet Peppers. And the old staple American Tabasco. The tagline on the menu says, "Mild, Hot, Serious or Stupid?" I should have asked for Stupid.
The burrito was good and it was only $3. They obviously have a larger version (which I had last year) and it has a lot more ingredients. Make sure you say, "No sour cream or cheese." Ask for the Veg Chili Loco sauce in whatever you choose.
Everything is made from scratch. The place was filled with people on a Friday night. It's dark and cozy in there. You feel like you are in a secret little hiding spot just for locals and people in the know, like me.
They also have Vegetarian Nachos, Tacos, Taco Burgers, Taco Salad and Enchiladas.
Miami sits on the Atlantic coastline with little protection from cyclical tropical storms and hurricanes, which have been growing in frequency and intensity as a result of changes in Atlantic Ocean temperatures in the last decade. Not only is Miami a low-lying city with significant coast exposure, but it is also experiencing considerable population growth due to immigration and migration from within the U.S., as well as a rise in costly waterfront real estate development from residential homes to resorts. All these factors combined make Miami the city most vulnerable to the threat of rising sea levels.
FRIGHTENING!!!! I think I'm going to go out today and take some photos of the construction going on downtown. It's hilarious. Nobody is buying them, but yet, they keep building. Hoping someone will fill in the empty floors. NEWSFLASH! No one has any money. I even heard that South Beach is already charging $4.00/g for gas. My friend said, "We are already in a recession but people just don't realize it." Oh yeah, what else is it going to take, I wonder?
Norfolk, Va. -- Although he has become the face of the worldwide fight against global warming, Al Gore has so far resisted facing one "inconvenient truth": The meat industry is the number one source of greenhouse-gas emissions, and the former vice president's a-steak-or-more-a-day habit isn't helping. That's why PETA has launched a new campaign just in time for Earth Day called OffsetAlGore.com to counter the damage to the planet that Gore's meat-laden diet is causing by encouraging people to take a pledge to go vegetarian for 30 days. That's enough time to prevent the release of more than 270 pounds of carbon dioxide into the Earth's atmosphere, preventing more pollution than if a person left his or her car at home every weekday for 30 days.
"Visitors to OffsetAlGore.com can undo some of the damage that Al Gore is doing to the environment every time he sits down to a steak," says PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich. "Mr. Gore's own addiction to meat is adding to the very crisis he's devoting his life to stopping."
I've never hidden my feelings towards Al Gore and his hypocrisy. Yesterday, I had a conversation with someone who believes that Global Warming is a scam, and that humans cannot possibly hurt the Earth, and it is resilient to anything we could ever do. It's that kind of attitude that keeps the environmentalists busy, because you have to undo the ignorance before you can implant wisdom. It's tiring but we don't have a choice.
So my mother "claims" she's never heard of Vegetable Broth - so I bought her some. I also got her hooked on Tofurky Italian Sausage. She surprised me with some vegan gumbo (photo above).
INGREDIENTS: Tofurky Italian Sausage w/basil and tomato Okra (she could've left this out) Carrots* Corn* Peas* String Beans* Shredded Cauliflower Shredded Broccoli Spinach Organic Vegetable Broth Tomato Scallions
Discussing their daughter's latest romance, Hilton's father Rick Hilton told reporter Robin Leach, "He's the perfect example of 'don't judge a book by its cover'. He's polite, well-mannered - [he] even calls me sir! We love him like family already. Benji doesn't drink, doesn't smoke and is a healthy vegan!"
Now, I have to be honest. I was skeptical as hell about eating anything that resembles real ribs, but I decided to try these ... just so I can blog about it. Do you believe me?
Gardenburger has something called Vegan Riblets. They taste like the McRib sandwich at McDonald's. Probably the same thing.
My vote: UNBELIEVABLY DELICIOUS!!! Put it in a wheat bun and Wow!
They come two in a package. I'm not going to get them anymore because I really don't like to eat microwaved food, but you should at least try it once. =)
Well, I finally got around to posting a picture of my little Butterscotch Ambrosia. She is really a TRIP! First of all, she chewed up my headphones two days ago. I have new ones, better ones, but that's not the point!
She is in love with plastic bottles. I gave her a little doll to play with and she acts like it stole her lunch money. Sometimes she looks like a lion. I must taste sweet because she is obsessed with licking and biting my fingers and toes. Fetish Weirdo!
We sleep together and she wakes me up by tapping me on the face. Lightly. One of these days girl, I'm going to be having a boxing dream and you're going to go flying across the room.
Fortunately, she's forgotten about her previous owner down the street. Now, I'm her bitch. It's cool. All is well with my new buddy. I'm going to videotape her soon. It will be called Butterscotch vs. Plastic (Rounds 1 through 10).
Hearings begin Monday April 14 for the middle school art teacher who was fired last September for bringing vegan themes to his art projects.
Dave Warwak, a tenured teacher of 10 years appealed his termination last fall. Warwak warned the school board, "the more you try to silence me, the louder I will get."
If you want to get out some emotion ... turn the lights off and listen to this song by Roger O'Donnell called The Truth Within Me. It is very emotional. Sometimes you gotta let it all out. I love it!
Check out this blog by my fellow blogger friend Rick, where he scans the South Florida Blogsphere for interesting posts. I've been featured 3 times already.
Updated several times a day. Very interesting ~ Take a look.
School lunch lines across the country are filled with greasy, high-fat cheeseburgers, chicken wings, and pizza. But this past March, PCRM helped Broward County, Fla.?the sixth-largest school district in the country?introduce Gardenburger?s Flame Grilled vegan burger to students at Everglades High School, Driftwood Middle School, and Eagle Point Elementary.
The veggie initiative began with Ashley Capps, a 10th grade student at Everglades High School who wanted more vegetarian options in the lunchroom. To persuade administrators that students would buy meatless meals, she circulated a petition that was signed by more than 100 of her classmates.
PCRM worked with Broward County to explore vegan lunch options that are healthy and taste good. PCRM nutritionists suggested the Gardenburger, and at the request of a Broward County school board member, PCRM helped the district?s food service department roll out the new veggie burger. PCRM president Neal Barnard, M.D., visited each school to speak to parents and administrators about the healthfulness of vegetarian options.
Three PCRM staff members traveled to Florida to assist with the marketing and taste-testing of the burgers. They gave out more than 3,400 samples of meatless patties topped with ketchup, mustard, and pickles. Students were so excited about trying the new lunch item that PCRM staffers could barely keep their sample trays full. Many supportive teaches also tried samples and agreed to hand out flyers to encourage their students to buy the burger.
Everglades High School, where students have a large food court with 12 choices, sold 100 veggie burgers, and 70 additional students bought lunch that day. The school was so pleased with these results that they sold the Gardenburger every day during March. Driftwood Middle School sold a remarkable 700 veggie burgers. And Eagle Point Elementary, where the veggie burger was competing with a student favorite cheese pizza sold about 580 burgers, and 190 more students purchased meals than on a typical day.
Each Gardenburger has 90 calories, 11 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, zero cholesterol, and only 4 grams of fat. Broward County is also planning to offer Garden Chili, rice and beans, and other vegetarian options. If students continue to purchase the veggie burgers, administrators will roll out vegan options to the entire district in the fall.
Heather Mills tries to maintain daughter's vegan diet
Heather Mills has issued an amazing list of dietary demands for daughter Bea while she is on holiday with Sir Paul McCartney.
She has faxed the five-star La Gazelle d'Or hotel in Morocco - where Macca plans to take the four-year-old next week - with EIGHT pages of instructions on what she can and can't eat.
Heather, 40 - who recently won a £24million settlement from Sir Paul, 65 - is adamant that Bea's strict vegan regime should be maintained.
A source said: "Paul booked the break for some quality time with Bea.
"Now he's found out that Heather has been driving the hotel staff mad, faxing both the head chef and manager instructions and recipe suggestions for Bea.
You know what! I don't see anything wrong with this. If I had a child from a divorce, I would be doing the EXACT same thing. People hate on Heather Mills because of this and that, but when it's all said and done, she is a vegan and a mother. Period. This is an instance where it might be best to only date or marry a vegan man, because you don't have to deal with this nonsense.
